Frequently Asked Questions
What Are The Differences Between 2D, 3D, 4D, And HD Ultrasounds?
2D (2-dimensional) ultrasounds are the typical black & white ultrasounds that you are used to seeing; these images allow you to see the outline of the baby.3D ultrasounds allow you to see your baby in three dimensions, showing facial features and distinct characteristics of your baby. 4D ultrasounds add the dimension of time, allowing you to see moving 3D images of your baby! HD Live ultrasounds utilize a unique technology from GE that allows an even more distinct image of your growing baby’s face. Additionally, we can use different lighting angles to capture the sharpest shot of your baby.
When Are The Best Times To Have 2D Versus 3D/4D/HD Ultrasounds?
2D ultrasounds are usually performed between 8 and 12 weeks. 3D/4D/HD ultrasound times vary depending on what you are looking to get out of the ultrasound. Although you can use 3D/4D/HD anytime throughout the pregnancy, more detailed features of your baby’s face are better visualized anytime after 22-23 WEEKS. If you’re looking for a view of your baby’s whole body, this is better achieved prior to 20 weeks.
What Can I Do To Prepare Myself For The Ultrasound To Ensure The Best Possible Images?
Drinking plenty of water may improve the image quality during your ultrasound experience. We recommend increasing your normal fluid intake a few days prior to your ultrasound.
How Long Will My Appointment Last?
This depends on the package that you have selected along with the position your baby is in. We want to provide you with the best possible pictures, although sometimes the position of the baby (i.e. facing your back) makes seeing his/her face difficult.
Are Family And Friends Allowed To Come To My Appointment?
Of course! This is an experience that we want you, your family and friends to share together. We have seating for eight guests, but feel free to bring as many guests as you’d like. All ages are welcome.
Do I Need An Appointment?
Yes, appointments are required for all of our services. You may book online, call/text or email us!
Is This Procedure Covered By Insurance?
No, 3D/4D ultrasounds at our facility are elective procedures, meaning that it is not medically necessary, therefore insurance will not cover these services.
Are You Able To Tell The Gender Of My Baby?
We can see the gender of your baby typically at 15 weeks. There are times, however, when the baby may be in a difficult position. Rest assured, we will try within our power to send you home with a precise answer. With our gender package, we guarantee seeing the gender, meaning, if the baby chooses to be a little modest at your first appointment, then it is free to come back and we will take a second look!
Are There Any Risks That May Affect Me Or My Baby?
Ultrasounds have been performed for decades to view growing babies with no adverse effects reported. Only registered diagnostic medical sonographers (RDMS) are performing your ultrasounds, and we incorporate the same rules regarding safety that are used in a medical setting. 3D/4D ultrasounds are medically safe; they use the same frequency as the 2D ultrasounds that are performed by your doctor.
When Is The Best Time To Have A 3D/4D Ultrasound?
7+ weeks – Ideal time to check on baby and get a heartbeat/canvas keepsake if desired.15-23 weeks – Ideal time for gender determination or heartbeat/canvas keepsakes23-33 weeks – Best 3D/4D viewing. Baby is filling out, but there is still room for your little one to move around, making it easier for us to get quality images.33-36 weeks – Late 3D/4D viewing. Don’t delay! Viewing opportunities may get limited. 36+ weeks – Your baby is often times getting in position for delivery. We can’t guarantee we will be able to see your babys face at this point in the pregnancy, but we will do our best! *If you are early, we recommend a 2D keepsake (7 weeks+) or gender package (15 weeks+), then return around 23-33 weeks for the best 3D/4D images.
